The phenomenon that is Chat GPT is wrapping its fantastic tentacles around more and more of our everyday processes.
Planning a holiday itinerary. Designing a tattoo for my son. Writing a fun limerick for a loved one’s birthday. Calculating a break even on a house price. The applications are seemingly endless.
Side note: this article is NOT written by Chat GPT. I promise you these are 100% my own words. But the title had AI input.
I am mildly obsessed, incredibly curious as to how this new technology intersects with our lives, creating valuable short cuts to research and increasing our time for more enjoyable endeavours like creating and learning.
Here’s how I found a leg-in to fashion with Chat GPT.
I was out walking my dog Freckles. As we looped back towards home, we passed a couple on their driveway, looking like he was heading for work and she was heading somewhere fabulous.
She – the woman – was about 50 years old and wearing this fabulous outfit, just breathtaking. She had great natural poise and this outfit that just looked amazing. A classic beauty.
I could have stopped and asked her about the outfit. Instead, I took to Chat GPT.
Side note: I really wish I’d stopped and told her how fabulous she looked. I would have appreciated that if it were me. Great example of how the machines will never entirely take over!
Using voice command, I asked Chat GPT to create me an image of what I imagined her outfit to be: Parisian inspired, black and white striped tee with a black skirt coming to under the knee, paired with black ballet flats.
Here was its instant response:

Mind. Blown.
Its clearly “AI” but it absoutely nailed the brief. This is what this woman looked like (except she was blonde).
The natural follow up question was where to buy items like this? And did the iconic French outlet Sezane stock such items?
Again, Chat GPT delivered, providing several retail options for putting this outfit together and I was left shaking my ahead in amazement.
The speed! The accuracy!
So what does this all mean anyway? It’s even easier for us to consume more fashion than we need? That the art of window shopping is confirmed as dead, now we don’t even need to scroll on our phones to find the items ourselves?
Truth be told I don’t really know what it means. Maybe it is a genuine time saver, meaning I can easily scope an outfit I want and find where to buy it and then get back to those juicy creative pursuits.
Maybe it will save me buying whole new outfits because I’ll be able to ask Chat GPT to find me the perfect shoes/hat/trousers to match something I already have in my wardrobe. A remedy for the fast fashion phenomenon?
Here’s the capsule collection (again, French inspired) for an Australian woman “in her 40s” for Winter for a budget of $1,100:

If nothing else, it sparks curiosity and thinking a little more deeply about how this much-touted piece of tech can actually drive positive abundance in our crazy, crowded world.
And that’s beneficial for all of us, not just the fashionistas.
